68 PLEXI BROWN PACK

WATCH THE DEMOS IN THE PRODUCT PICTURE SECTION

 

We took our 1968 12 000 series Plexi named “Ragnar” with us down the rabbit hole of the infamous Brown Sound.

 

This pack is the result. 11 captures of this monster of a Plexi dimed to 10, running on reduced voltage ( at the the American equivalent of 90v).

 

The signal chain includes a vintage script logo Phase 90, a vintage grey box Flanger and most of the captures include the blue 6-band EQ. There are variations with and without the EQ and EP3 in the chain so that you can run your own in front of the captures.

 

Without the EQ and the EP3 the tones are fatter, as the 68 Plexi fattens up A LOT when dimed. Add in a nice Reverb and Delay and you are in brown tone heaven.

 

Many of the tones will be highly reminescent of the first album that made that put the term Brown Sound on the map, especially the captures with the CAB2 variation (Greenback + JBL D120 combination).

 

I must admit i was never very into these tones, but after crawling out of this rabbit hole i can tell i am hooked and so is Kristens, our guitarist who recorded a couple of demos for the pack (watch them in the picture/video section when you press on one of the dots below the product picture).

 

The set features 11 full captures of the amp (cab baked into the capture). The amp was recorded through 3 speaker variations n the 1968 Marshall 1982B 4X12 CAB: G12M25 75Hz; 2X G12M25 75Hz + 2X JBL D120; G12H30 55Hz.

The first two speaker options were mic’d with 2 SM57’s slightly backed up from the grill cloth and sometimes one of them set to 45 degrees off-axis. The thrid speaker option was recorded through the typical amalgam approach to this cab with two R121’s , a M160 and a U87.
